Dabasi Schweng Loránd

* Bánya, August 18, 1905 – † Gilly/Switzerland, December 2, 1988 / economist, politician ; ; He earned a degree in economics from the Budapest University of Technology in 1928 and a year later from the London School of Economics. Between 1935 and 1940, he was an assistant professor at the University of Budapest, and in the meantime he also taught at the Munich University of Economics in 1938 and 1939. He earned his doctorate in 1940 and headed the research department of the Hungarian National Bank until 1945. After the World War, he worked as a political state secretary in the Ministry of Finance on behalf of the National Peasant Party in 1945–1947. ; He became unreliable for the Soviet command staff occupying Hungary when, in a radio address, he demanded the rescheduling of Hungarian reparations to be paid to the Soviet Union, pointing out the country's catastrophic economic situation. In 1947, he left for Great Britain and from then on he first taught economics at the University of London, then in 1949 became an expert for the American National Planning Society in Washington. Between 1951 and 1965, he worked as an economic consultant in the developing countries of Central and South America (Guatemala, Haiti, Mexico, Panama, El Salvador, Venezuela, Colombia, Peru) and in Asian countries (South Korea, Pakistan) in the development of development programs. He published two books in English on the economic situation and economic policy of Hungary: Political, Social and Economic Developments in postwar Hungary, 1949, Economic Planning in Hungary since 1938, 1951.
