* Brogyán, July 5, 1632 – † Nagyszeben, March 18, 1707 / philosopher, theologian, atomist philosophical writer ; ; He began his studies in Sopron, then in 1659-1660 he studied in Wittenberg as a student of János Bayer, who was teaching there at the time. In 1661 he became deputy school principal in Breznóbánya, then principal. From 1667 to 1670 he was a teacher at the Lutheran theological college in Prešov. At that time – according to our distinguished physics historian Jolán Zemplén – this institution was the center of physics in the Highlands in the 1660s. In addition to Czabán, the aforementioned János Bayer (Prešov) also taught here. Because in his philosophical views, as a supporter of the materialistic atomism of Pierre Gassendi (1592–1655), he opposed the scholastic-Aristotelian philosophy of Catholicism, he had a dispute with some of his fellow teachers, above all Illés Ladiver, and for this reason he thought it better to go to Transylvania. Between 1676 and 1687, he worked as a teacher of theology and philosophy at the Evangelical College of Sibiu. From 1687 until his death, he was a priest, and from 1692 he was dean in Sibiu. The greatest tragedy of his life was when his son, who worked as a royal judge in Sibiu, was tried on charges of treason and beheaded in 1703. ; ; Main works: ; Exercitatio physica de intellectu …, 1658, ; Existencia atomorum, ab injuris 24 argumentorum..., 1667, ; Synopsis controversiarum metaphysicarum, 1669, ; Dissertatio philosophica, 1670.
