Adolf Cserey

* Besztercebánya, October 28, 1851 – † Budapest, July 28, 1928 / zoologist and entomologist ; ; He completed his secondary school studies at the Selmecbánya and Eger gymnasiums. He studied natural sciences at the University of Budapest. In 1875 he obtained a teaching certificate, in 1881 a doctoral degree in natural history and geography, and later in chemistry. As a Cistercian monk, he worked as a high school teacher in Pécs from 1874, in Baja from 1879, and in Székesfehérvár from 1880. He left the order in 1884 and became a journalist in Szeged. However, from 1885 he again held the chair until his retirement in 1921: between 1885 and 1894 he was the ev. He taught at the Lyceum, in Košice from 1894 to 1895, in Eger from 1895 to 1903, and in Budapest from 1903 to 1921. He was interested in many things, from minerals and plants to beetles and butterflies. He even wrote about economic issues. His Plant Dictionary, published in Selmecbánya in 1887, went through several editions (the fourth was published in 1906, with Sándor Jávorka also contributing to it).
