Sandor Csanda

* Kisújfalu, August 3, 1927 – † Bratislava, July 10, 1989 / literary historian, university professor ; ; He completed elementary school in his native village, high school in Érsekújvár and Budapest, and then began his university studies in Budapest, which he completed in Bratislava in 1952, obtaining a Hungarian-Slovak teaching diploma at the Comenius University. From 1951, he was an assistant professor at the Department of Hungarian Language and Literature, established jointly with Sas Andorra. From 1954, he was an assistant professor, from 1962, an associate professor, from 1974, and from 1975–1986, a professor. In 1975, he became a doctor of literary studies. In the meantime (1960–1968) he was the head of the Department of Hungarian Language and Literature at the Pedagogical College in Nitra. In addition to his teaching work, he was involved in literary history, literary criticism, and research into Hungarian-Slovak literary relations. Together with Lajos Turczel, he did pioneering work in the exploration of Hungarian literature in Czechoslovakia between the two world wars. He also dealt with 16th century Hungarian literature, above all with the work of Bálint Balassi.
