Daniel Bothar, Jr.

* Bánya, April 2, 1856 – † Sopron, February 8, 1929 / philologist, teacher, journalist ; ; He graduated from the Bánya gymnasium. He studied Slavic studies at the University of Vienna and attended lectures on classical philology at the University of Budapest. In 1881, he obtained a secondary school teacher's diploma in Greek and Latin at the University of Budapest. In 1881–1882, he was a gymnasium teacher in Fehértemplom, and in 1882–1886, he was the director of the industrial and commercial school in Újvidék. From 1886, he was a teacher at the Felsőlövő – today: Oberschützen – gymnasium, from 1896 until his retirement (1922), he was a teacher at the Sopron Evangelical Lyceum, the keeper of the Lyceum's large library and the Transdanubian Evangelical Archivist of the parish. In 1923–1925, he was a lecturer of the Slovak language at the Sopron Ecclesiastical Theology Faculty of the University of Pécs. He wrote linguistic and pedagogical studies and reviews. He is sometimes confused with his uncle, Dániel Bothár Sr., and the botanical results published by his uncle are attributed to him. He primarily dealt with classical languages, Slavic studies, and Czech-Slovak literary and cultural relations. He was one of the organizers of the natural history collection of the Sopron Lyceum.
