* Budapest, June 15, 1874 – † Budapest, December 6, 1931 / geologist, corresponding member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences ; ; His father, János Böckh (Pest, October 20, 1840 – Budapest, May 10, 1909), geologist, mining engineer, corresponding member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, himself obtained a degree from the Selmecbánya Academy. Hugó completed his university studies in Budapest and Munich, then became an assistant to mineralogist-professor Sándor Schmidt (1855–1904) at the Budapest Technical University. In 1900-1914, he was a professor at the Selmecbánya Academy (from 1904 a college). He initiated the exploration of the Egbell oil field in 1915, during which the Eötvös pendulum was first used to detect the underground structure of oil. After the successful drilling, he was appointed director of the state mining monopolies and research center in 1918. In 1921, after leaving the state service, he became a consultant to the Anglo-Persian Oil Company. On this behalf, he led the Persian oil exploration in 1923–1926 and 1928–1929. ; The most outstanding former Hungarian expert in oil and natural gas exploration, he discovered huge oil fields with the help of the Eötvös pendulum, and was the director of natural gas exploration in Transylvania. In 1926–1928, he conducted studies in North, Central and South America. From 1929 until his death, he was director of the Geological Institute. He is the author of numerous petrological and paleontological papers, which were mainly published in the Geological Journal, the Geological Institute's yearbook and the Mining and Metallurgical Journals. The Hungarian Academy of Sciences elected him a corresponding member in 1915, and in 1930 he became a full member of the Szent István Academy. ; ; His main works: ; Geology I-II.
