Louis Bencze

* Érsekújvár, August 15, 1912 – † Sopron, July 24, 2007 / forest engineer, university professor ; ; His father was the forester of Érsekújvár for 40 years. He graduated from the Hungarian section of the local state secondary school. He obtained an agricultural engineering diploma from the University of Agricultural Sciences in Brno in 1936. After a two-year forest management internship, he received a forestry engineering diploma from the Sopron Forestry Academy in 1939. He was first a forest inspector in Léva, later served in several places and finally ended up in Budapest, where he worked as a ministerial official until 1950, then served as chief engineer of the Tolna County State Forestry. In 1957, he returned to Sopron, where he was first the head of the Transdanubian Forest Protection Station, then a member of the Forestry Scientific Institute. In 1963, he became an associate professor at the University of Forestry and Wood Industry. He primarily taught hunting and game management. He was appointed professor of the Department of Game Management, established in 1969. His research field was primarily the examination of game management and the game-bearing capacity of forests. Many of his ideas and suggestions were implemented.
