* Bratislava, February 21/22, 1847 – † Bratislava, February 4, 1926 / botanist ; ; He completed his schooling in his hometown, but did not finish high school. He trained as a butcher and ran his own butcher shop between 1872 and 1901. He acquired his botanical knowledge on his own. He studied the flowerless plants, especially mushrooms, of the Bratislava area. He listed 1,649 species of mushrooms, of which he described about 70 as new. Foreign mycologists also sent him mushroom species for identification, and based on these, he described the fungal flora of entire regions. He handed over his herbarium collection of more than 9,000 items to the MNM in 1903. Numerous mushroom species and higher plants were named after him.
