Ferenc Bauer

* Magyarbél, November 12, 1950 – / physician, pediatrician, university professor ; ; younger brother of Győző Bauer (Érsekújvár), physician and pharmacologist. He completed his primary school education in his native village and in Érsekújvár (1966), and graduated from the Érsekújvár high school in 1969. He obtained a diploma from the Faculty of Medicine of the Charles University in Prague (1975). In 1975–1978, he worked in various African countries, from 1979 he was a physician in the neonatal department of the Érsekújvár hospital (chief physician from 1982). From 1998 he was the chief physician of the Neonatal Clinic. He received his PhD in 2002, and has been an associate professor since 2005, and a professor at three universities and colleges since 2007 (the Slovak University of Health Sciences and the St. Elizabeth College in Bratislava, as well as the University of Nagyszombat). The neonatal department of the Újvár Hospital is the highest-level neonatal center in Nagyszombat and Nitra County, where the most immature and sick newborns in the region are treated. Of the 6 neonatal centers in Slovakia, Újvár is the most successful, with the lowest mortality rate and the highest number of uninjured survivors. His research interests include the prenatal period and the problem of premature infants: methods and strategies for ventilation of immature newborns within neonatological intensive care, as well as monitoring the effect of respiratory therapy. ; He has published nearly 60 scientific papers in foreign and nearly 120 papers in Slovak journals, and is a co-author of 12 monographs. He is the founder (1994) and editor-in-chief of the Slovak journal of neonatology (Neonatologické zvesti), and a member of the editorial boards of other journals (Detský lekár, Pediatria pre prax and the International Journal of Prenatal and Perinatal Psychology and Medicine). In addition to his medical and research work, he is also involved in the training of undergraduate doctors and nurses, as well as postgraduate neonatology specialists and nurses. He has been re-elected president of the Slovak Society of Neonatologists several times since 1990. As a university student, he was one of the leaders of the literary stage of the Ady Endre Student Circle in Prague. Honors and awards: Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative (Unicef 1997), Pro Urbe Award of Érsekújvár (1999), Bronze Medal of the Slovak Medical Association (2000), Award of the Slovak Literary Fund (2001), Jedlik Ányos Award of the Szimő Municipality (2001), Silver Medal of the St. Elizabeth College (2007).
