* Somorja, August 30, 1946 – / economist, sociologist, politician ; ; He began his school studies in his hometown, graduating from high school in 1963. He obtained a degree in economics from the University of Economics in Bratislava in 1968. In 1968–1969, he was a lecturer at the Slovak Association of Small-scale Cooperatives, then until 1983, a scientific associate at the Institute for Research on Living Standards in Bratislava and a post-graduate student at the Institute of Sociology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, obtaining his PhD in 1980. In 1984–1990, he was a senior scientific associate at the Institute for Social Development and Labour Research, and from 1990, a senior scientific associate at the Institute for Forecasting of the Slovak Academy of Sciences. From 1990 to 2004, she was a representative of the Coexistence party, and from 1998 of the MKP party, in the National Council of the Slovak Republic. In 1998–2002, she was the State Secretary of the Ministry of Social and Family Affairs, and between 2004–2014, she was a Member of the EU Parliament. As a sociologist, she primarily dealt with lifestyle research. She has published 50 scientific publications so far.
