* Somorja, 30 Aug. 1946 / sociologist. ; ; Graduated from Somorja (1963), obtained an engineering degree from the College of Economics in Poznań (1968). In 1968–1969, he was a lecturer at the Slovak Association of Small-scale Cooperatives, then until 1983, he was a scientific associate at the Institute for Research on Living Standards in Poznań and a post-graduate student at the Institute of Sociology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, and in 1984–1990, he was a senior scientific associate at the Institute for Social Development and Labor Research. From 1990, he was a senior scientific associate at the Institute for Forecasting of the Slovak Academy of Sciences. Between 1990 and 2004, he was a member of parliament, and from December 1995, he was also a Slovak member of the European Parliament. Between 1998 and 2002, he was the State Secretary of the Ministry of Social and Family Affairs. In 2004, he was elected a Member of the European Parliament. ; – He has published about 50 studies in the Czech-Slovak press.
