Dezső Baloghy

* Ipolybalog, November 29, 1843 – † Balassagyarmat, January 30, 1918 / archivist, historian, linguist ; ; Due to the early death of his mother, he was raised at the home of his maternal aunt, Emília Veresné Prónay. He completed his high school studies in Losonc, Rimaszombat and Nagykőrös between 1853 and 1861. In 1864–1867 he served in Italy as a military officer, then returned to Hungary and farmed his lands. In 1875 he became an assistant bailiff in Salgótarján and Fülek, from 1886 until his death he was the archivist of Nógrád County, and later the chief archivist in Balassagyarmat. During his research, he came across numerous curiosities and rarities of Hungarian linguistic history, of which he copied 150 pieces and sent them to the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. He published economic articles, folk songs from his own collection, folk sayings, folk customs, superstitions, beliefs, as well as poems, stories and novels.
