At the beginning of his medical career, he was an assistant physician under Professor Hümér Hültl. From 1912, he was an assistant professor of Gyula Dollinger at the 1st Surgical Clinic in Budapest. In 1916, he obtained a private teaching qualification in the field of visceral surgery. From December 1919, he was appointed chief physician of the hospital, and then in 1926, he was appointed as a public extraordinary professor to head the reorganized 3rd Surgical Clinic. Due to his Jewish origin, many university students protested against his appointment, but the government kept him in his position. From 1930, he was a public regular professor, and from 1 June 1946, director of the 2nd Surgical Clinic. In the 1946/1947 academic year, he was elected rector of the university, but was unable to complete his term. He spread the use of local anesthesia in Hungary. He described his experiences in more than a hundred scientific publications, which he gained in connection with countless surgeries. His most outstanding works are his studies on fistulas, tetanus, anesthesia, and his work in the field of biliary and rectal surgery. He trained about 150 students and performed thousands of surgeries.
