"The beginning of the Easter period was marked by Palm Sunday. The custom still exists today that on this day a flowering willow branch is consecrated in the church, which is called a bariska. This was never taken home from the church, because it was believed that in that case there would be a lot of fleas. It was stuck next to the beam in the stable to protect the animals from all harm. On the 9 days before Maundy Thursday, women prayed a novena every evening. At dawn on Good Friday, they went to the roadside statues (the cross in front of the church, the large cross in the cemetery, the large cross next to the road in Galanta, the statue of Mary along the road in Sered) to pray." ; From Dr. László Pukkai's book: History of the village of Vága
