The leadership of the Nagymegyer Fire Department in 1886

The Nagymegyer Volunteer Fire Department was founded in October 1883 with 52 members. Its first president was Dr. György Mezey, who held this position until his death in 1902. The first commander of the 32-member fire department was city judge Vincze Győry. After its establishment, the department had two hand-operated pressure syringes and 12 buckets. The expansion of the equipment available to the department continued in the following years. The financial resources of the voluntary organization were provided partly by the monthly membership fees of active and supporting members and partly by the support of supporting members. In addition, one of the organization's significant sources of income was the popular annual fire department ball. The consecrated team flag of the fire department is kept in the Roman Catholic church.
