The Nagymegyer Choir in Zselize

In February 1956, the choir of the city organization of Csemadok was founded on the initiative of Rezső Kulcsár, the then director of the city cultural center. The mixed choir of 60-80 people worked regularly until the end of 1959. János Kopper writes about the event in the March 22, 1956 issue of Új Szó: “The choir has seventy members: old, young, women and men, cooperative members, workers, commercial employees and officials. The choir’s conductor, score writer, in a word, its Soul: Rezső Kulcsár, a teacher at the Hungarian-language eight-year school. The choir works enthusiastically, with vigor and great will.” In addition to Rezső Kulcsár, Irma Szeder, Károly Grellneth, Pál Henc, and János Matus helped the choir’s work. The choir's program mainly included folk song arrangements and movement songs. The first performance, held on April 5, 1956, was followed by more. The large cultural group performed at national events held in Gombaszög and Zselíz.
