At the Kufstein hospital

Dezső Bartos from Felsőszel was wounded at San Martino on June 17, 1916. The platoon's task was to create an advanced machine gun position between the two lines – that is, between the Austro-Hungarian and the Italian positions. However, the Italians noticed their efforts and began to shoot them wildly. During the action, seven soldiers were wounded, including Dezső Bartos. He was shot in the lung! A boy from Szent named Viatórisz pulled him down from the hill… The paramedics immediately treated and bandaged them, and then they were taken to a hospital in the town of Kufstein in Tyrol! The wounded were placed in barracks on the outskirts of the town. The doctors could barely manage to care for the many patients! Dezső Bartos was also operated on only a few days later. He recovered for a month. He kept the bullet as a souvenir and carried it with him for a long time. However, he dropped it one winter day and was never found in the heavy snow. On August 13, 1916, he sent a photograph home, showing himself next to a huge Bosnian, with the medal on it.
