In Nagymegyer after the change of regime in 1989, the first public monument was a memorial column to the heroes of Nagymegyer during World War II on Heroes' Square. The memorial column was commissioned by the Nagymegyer Organization of the Csemadok. Its creator was György Lipcsey, a sculptor from Dunaszerdahely. Its ceremonial unveiling took place on November 2, 1991, in front of a large number of interested people on Heroes' Square. The accompanying program was attended by Catholic dean László Kovács and Evangelical pastor András Szabó. In the picture, we see dean László Kovács blessing the memorial column.
