Zsigárd Reformed Church
Building, structure
The village had a Reformed oratory or church in ancient times, but these were always destroyed by the Jesuits of Sellye or the Catholics of Pered. After the issuance of the Toleration Decree of Joseph II, the local Reformed built a temporary house of prayer in 1784 on the land donated by István Tanító and István Róka, and soon after they began building a Reformed church in accordance with the Toleration Decree, which was completed in 1785. It was a classicist church without a bell and with a gable, and a tower was built on it in 1833 (according to the note on the arch of the entrance door: Zs. R. EKKL. Epit 1833). Later, only repairs were made to it, and then in 1931 the architect Gyula Baracz rebuilt the church based on the plans of Ferenc Tóth's construction office in Komárom. It is a straight-sided building with a tower built into the facade, and under the bell we find the entrance portal with a forecourt. The ceiling of the church is flat. On the three-axis main facade there is a pair of pilasters with cornice heads, on which the masonry pinnacle, with the tower in the middle, rests. A Protestant gallery supported by two columns can be seen in the church. The furnishings date from the time the church was built, and the classicist pulpit decorated with garlands is noteworthy. The classicist baptismal font was built at the end of the 18th century. The memorial plaque for the victims of World War II contains 24 names, which is also located in the church. The organ was made in 1941 by Ottó Rieger at the Budapest organ factory. Its neoclassical pipe box is very beautiful. There are three bells in the tower. The large bell was cast for the greater glory of God on the 100th anniversary of the tower's construction in 1933, at the initiative of the Reformed choir, by the believers of Zsigárd in the company of Ferenc Egeri from Kisgejüg, during the time of pastor László Kalitza, and caretakers Zsigmond Udvaros and Gusztáv Tóth. The middle bell was made in 1921 by Zsigmond Szalay and the Reformed believers of Zsigárd at the Fischer brothers'. The small bell was made in Nagyszombat, in the workshop of Carolus Filgharande, during the activities of pastor Sándor Bányai. ; According to oral tradition, a Russian general and a soldier lie near the church, who fell in the Battle of Zsigárd in 1849. Also according to oral tradition (Ilona Ambrus), when the monument was built, their bones were dug up in front of the church and buried under the foundation of the monument. ; ; The pastors of the Reformed Church: ; 1.
