Jewish cemetery in Szentendre
Cemeteries, tombstones, graves
In Szentendre, about a quarter of the population was Jewish, but after the war and the deportations, only a fraction of them returned to the city. As a direct consequence of this, their cemetery also began to deteriorate, perhaps only the high brick wall (now partially demolished) and divine providence saved it from destruction. Let us hope that the situation of the cemetery will improve in the future and it will not fall victim to the construction industry, like so many buildings in Szentendre.
