Tomb of István Znám, mathematician and university professor (Balogvölgy)
Cemeteries, tombstones, graves
István Znám (1936-1993) was a university professor and head of the mathematics department at the Comenius University in Bratislava. He obtained every possible university title and gave lectures at several foreign universities, most often in Canada. He sent greeting cards from these places, which always ended with the words: everything is beautiful here, but the most beautiful in the world is Balog. He was preparing for Balog even when he was suddenly killed. Before leaving for home, he went swimming in the Sunny Lakes (Slnečné jazero) in Senj, where he drowned. His research areas are number theory and graph theory. He formulated and investigated the number theory problem named after him (Znám problem). He published under the name Štefan Znám, and his wife also engraved this name on his tombstone.
