Bust of Vince Vermes
Statue, monument, memorial plaque
The village's rise was largely due to its former benefactor, Vince Vermes (1847-1940), who had a Catholic church named after Our Lady of the Rosary built on his own land in 1889 and taught poor farm children for free in his own house for forty years from 1875 at his own expense. For his long Christian work, Pope Pius XI awarded him the "Bene merenti" medal on July 16, 1933.
