Iron foundry in Kuntapolca
Building, structure
“Several decades ago, I came across a chronicle in the library of the Betlér castle, in which the factory is mentioned as a modern foundry from the 17th century. While at that time there were only hammers in our area, for example in Páskaháza and Csetnek, a foundry was already operating in Kuntapolca. To my knowledge, this is the oldest written record where a foundry is mentioned. By the way, a lot of products were carried from this area in carts to Budapest and Bratislava at that time, according to our grandparents, including war parts, but also some elements of the Budapest Chain Bridge were brought from here,” said the former company owner. According to Béla Balázs, he came to the village in 1957, enrolled in the pattern joinery course, his father was a cabinetmaker, and his middle brother was a building joiner. According to family tradition, he was also started in this line. ; ; The near Béla Balázs, the former owner of a five-hundred-year-old iron foundry and factory, started his profession 63 years ago. The former apprentice never dreamed that he would one day manage the plant. After six decades of hard work, the Kuntapolca factory is closing its doors for good. The company is being moved to nearby Pelsőc, where Balázs' grandson, Sándor Kozsár, is trying to breathe new, youthful momentum into the iron foundry.
