City Hall

Building, structure

The former Pleyer-style, two-story building at number 93 on Széchenyi Street, built as a café and hotel, was purchased by the city government in 1901. ; From then on, the village hall (later city hall) has been the seat of the city government to this day. ; From 1902, the village offices were located on the upper floor of the building, while a pharmacy operated on the ground floor. In the courtyard of the building, city jails and a guardhouse were created for the village police. Later, over the years, the one-story building was renovated and transformed several times, including in 1958–59, when it was expanded with an addition. ; As part of the city image transformation according to Imre Makovecz, which began in 1995, the building changed again: a tower was built above its entrance. The "new" town hall, thus transformed, quickly became a defining building and one of the symbols of the cityscape of Dunaszerdahely.
