Ervin Varga (1955, Nagykövesd - 2013, Éberhard) is an outstanding figure of Hungarian and Slovak folk dance, choreographer and university dance teacher. His memorial plaque was unveiled on June 13, 2015 in Nagykövesd. ; ; In 1969, he was a member of the Palóc Folk Dance Ensemble in Fülekpüspöki, when he first met János Quittner, who created a choreography for the ensemble. In 1970, he danced in the Új Nemzedék at the Mechanical Engineering Secondary School in Košice. In the summer of 1972, he participated in the Szőttes summer tour and performed in Bratislava on weekends. In 1974, he graduated and moved to Bratislava. The following year, he was admitted to the Dance Department of the Academy of Music, and at the suggestion of the head of the department, Štefan Nosáľ, he applied to Lúčnicá. In 1975, he was present in three ensembles simultaneously: Új Hajtás, Lúčnicá and Szőttes. ; He worked as a dancer and artistic assistant at Lúčnica for years. From 1983 to 1987, he was the artistic director and choreographer of Szőttes, from 1988, he was the artistic director and choreographer of Ifjú Szivek, and then between 1993 and 1995, he was its director. From 1990, he taught at the Bratislava College of Dance for 16 years. From 2003 to 2009, he was the artistic director of the Slovak State Folk Ensemble (SĽUK). ; He generously distributed his energies among amateur ensembles, and the Palóc Ensemble in Fülekpüspök, the Új Hajtás in Diószeg, the Új Nemzedék in Košice, the Nyitnikék in Prague and other amateur ensembles where he was a founder and artistic director owe a lot to him. He became a leading figure of professional Slovak folk dance, and at the same time he was a recognized choreographer in Hungary as well, and he was a friend of the Budapest Folk Dance Ensemble. He became an ambassador of Slovak and Hungarian folk dance culture in Japan.
