Bust of Ármin Vámbéry

The bronze bust of the distinguished Orientalist was erected by the local Vámbéry Civic Association on Vámbéry Square in the city center. ; Ármin Vámbéry (Vamberger) was born on March 19, 1832 in Szentgyörgy, from where he moved to Dunaszerdahely as a small child. He himself declared Dunaszerdahely his hometown due to his childhood memories: “I value the sympathy of my dear hometown (…) more than any honor I have ever received,” he wrote to the city government in 1902, responding to his birthday greetings.
