1. Gentlemen, let me speak a word, I speak truth, ; I speak no jest, but reality, ; Give me, then, a little liberty, ; While I tell the story of holy marriage. ; ; 2. When God created Adam, ; He ordained holy marriage even then, ; He exposed one of his ribs to Adam, ; From which he made Eve, as it were, by his side. ; ; 3. The bridegroom himself was the king of heaven, ; As the holy history of Moses ; Gives us this abundantly, whosoever shall examine it, ; This all reason marvels with wonder. ; ; 4. For this holy ordinance the Lord of heaven, ; It pleased all the remnant of Adam, ; All the patriarchs and evangelists, ; Few find a life without equal. ; ; 5. Surely it can be said that he is happy, ; Whom the Lord loves to bless with a good companion, ; This can be said with many examples, ; Since it could be proven. ; ; 6. Happy is he who has a good and faithful wife, ; For a faithful wife is the pearl and jewel of the house, ; Happy is he whom the majesty of God so blesses, ; Whoever believes this, here is the end of my poem.
