Turul statue in Lévárton
Built heritage
To the north of Tornalja, in a picturesque valley cut by the Turóc stream, lies Lévárt, the smallest settlement of Gömör. On June 18, 2017, a commemoration and statue unveiling ceremony were organized in memory of the Hungarians of Lévárt who were deported in 1947. The work was created by the master blacksmith of Hanva in southern Gömör, Ottó László. The Turul bird, made of many iron feathers, grips a sword on an artificial rock cliff, reminding us with dignity of the trials of the past, proclaiming that the roots of the Hungarian people and their will to live are strong.
The Hungarians of the Uplands trust in their future and their survival. The atmosphere and determination of the day are proof of this. The participants of the celebration returned home filled with true national feelings, as they managed to realize a great dream, which is thanks to the persistent and determined work of Márta Halász, who knows nothing of the impossible. We congratulate her. - stated the members of the Héthatár National Heritage Association participating in the event.
