Turul Statue (Monument to the Conquest of Hungary)
Statue, monument, memorial plaque
In August 1996, despite various difficulties and obstacles, Nagykapos managed to celebrate the 1100th anniversary of the Hungarian conquest in a dignified manner. The millencentennial monument erected by the local Csemadok foundation was inaugurated in the square in front of the town hall. The marble pedestal of the bronze Turul bird bears the coat of arms of the town of Nagykapos and the following inscription: “In honor of the 1100th anniversary of the conquest, it was erected from public donations by the communities of: Abara, Bés, Budaháza, Csicser, Deregnyő, Dobóruszka, Hegyi, Imreg, Iske, Kaposkelecsény, Kisráska, Mátyóc, Mogyorós, Mokcsakerész, Nagykapos, Nagyráska, Nagyszelmenc, Szirénfalva, Szürnyeg, Vaján, Vajkóc, Veskóc”. ; Since 1996, wreaths have been laid every year on March 15th in memory of the 1848-49 War of Independence, but since 2016, the community has also commemorated the Day of Solidarity in front of the Conquest Monument.
