Turul Memorial Park

Statue, monument, memorial plaque

The inhabitants of the village of Marcelháza celebrated together on August 24, 2014. A new public statue was inaugurated in the park in front of the village hall, which was renovated by local residents performing public works. The statue is a work of stonemason Tibor Bélai made of Süttő limestone, next to it stands a column carved from Süttő marble, on which is a replica of the crown of Saint Stephen made by decorative blacksmith Zsolt Böjti. The artists offered the work as a donation to the village. ; Mayor Ervin Varga drew attention to the Hungarian identity and the symbol of the turul bird, Saint Stephen's work as a state builder and his admonitions that are still valid today, and thanked those who contributed to the new pride of Marcelháza. Pastor Elemér Rácz also praised the importance of the first Christian Hungarian king, emphasizing that Stephen decided after careful consideration to open up to the West, and for this purpose his people adopted Christianity. Following the ceremony, parish priest Márió Kóňa celebrated a camp mass, in which he praised the life path that led from Vajk to Stephen and to Stephen's canonization. He presented his life as a role model for the faithful to follow. The entire event was made more uplifting by the performance of the Marcelháza choir.
