Trianon Memorial Cross at Órhalom
Statue, monument, memorial plaque
A wooden pedestrian bridge built a few years ago at the base of the church allows citizens of the two countries - the residents of Őrhalom and Ipolyvarbó - to meet without having to travel more than 10 km unnecessarily. On the Hungarian side, on a small hill, stands the Trianon Memorial Cross, which was erected on June 7, 2008, on the banks of the Ipoly, on the border of the two villages of Nógrád that were once almost connected. ; The praise goes to the organizer Ferenc Gemer, who was the initiator of the fact that after Herencsény, where the people there erected the Vigilant Cross of the Palócoks, the Palócoks should erect another cross, evoking the tragic historical times, on the border of the two villages of Nógrád that were once almost connected. ; At the inauguration ceremony, mayors János Kanyó and Károly Zólyomi gave speeches, Péter László, a young man from Órhalma, recited his own poem, the traditionalists of the two villages sang, István Csábi from Balassagyarmat recited the Ode, the initiator Ferenc Gemer and the representatives of the church also commemorated. Stella Leontin, a canon and parish priest of Balassagyarmat, blessed the cross, assisted by Károly Budai, a deacon from Ipolyvarbó, and Zsigmond Molnár, a Calvinist pastor from Balassagyarmat.
