Holy Trinity Column (Plague Column) in Trenčín
Sacral small monument
In the summer of 1710, a huge plague epidemic devastated the city. The Black Death (Latin: atra mors) claimed the lives of 1,600 people in Trenčín. In memory of this, the Jesuits, with the help of the abbot Miklós Illésházy (1653-1723), erected a memorial column in the city's main square in 1712, which was made in Baroque style by Viennese stonemasons working on the reconstruction of the Jesuit (later Piarist) church.
