The farm officer or administrator, less often a farm governor, farm director, ispán, cashier, or locksmith, was a generally qualified person who managed the management of large estates and manors on behalf of the owner until the mid-20th century. ; At the end of the 18th century, György Festetics founded Georgikon in Keszthely for the purpose of training farm officers. A hundred years later, in 1900, a law regulated the legal relationship between the owner and the farm officer. This law stated: ; “1. § A farm officer is someone who contracts to perform routine tasks of economic administration, management or control in another person’s farm for a fee. ; /.../ ; 24. § Only certified farm officers may be employed as farm officers in state farms. A certified farm officer is a Hungarian citizen who holds a (naturalized) diploma or degree certificate issued by a domestic college of economics or economic education institute.”
