Historical Town Hall in Rožňany
Building, structure
One of the most important public buildings in the square, the two-storey, "U"-shaped, gabled roofed, tiled, beautifully renovated town hall was built in 1711 by merging two older, late Gothic and Renaissance buildings. The Baroque town hall consisted of a ground floor and a first floor. During its 19th century renovation, it was given another floor and its main facade was rebuilt in the classicist style. In the axis of the building, above the cornice, the triangular tympanum is decorated with a gilded angel, which holds the town's coat of arms under its wings. It depicts three roses and the miners' emblem - a crossed miner's hammer and wedge. ; In the middle of the 20th century, another residential building was added to the northern side of the town hall, the original facade of which was preserved, and at the same time the large theater hall was created by transforming the rooms on the 2nd floor. ; Several memorial plaques were placed on the facade of the building. For us, the most important one is the one commemorating Prince Ferenc II. Rákóczi.
