Wooden statue of Mihály Tompa in Hanva
Statue, monument, memorial plaque
A wooden statue was erected in Hanva in memory of the priest-poet Mihály Tompa, on the 140th anniversary of the poet's death. This is the fourth public statue in Hanva, in the village where the poet ministered for years and where his ashes still rest. The statue was born from a local initiative and was completed as a result of the cooperation of the village's Tompa Mihály Friends' Circle, the Reformed Church and the local government. The statue was created by the very talented folk artist, woodcarver and sculptor Igó Aladár. In addition to the two statues in Hanva, a memorial plaque in the church and a memorial room in the courtyard of the rectory proclaim the noble poet's life work and creed.
