The grave of World War I hero Béla Thurzó

Cemeteries, tombstones, grave sites

Torzó family. (Nosziczi) One of the oldest noble families of Trenčín county. In that county, above the market town of Puchó, on the left bank of the Váh, lies the ancient nest of the family, the village of Noszicz, where the descendants of the family that were left behind before the ennoblement still live under the name Turza. From here, one branch of the family emerged and settled in the city of Trenčín, where we find Miklós among the city's citizens at the end of the 16th century (1598). The eldest son of this family, János Turzó of Nosziczi, was already in 1587 a member of the Trenčín royal family. was a judge of the city, and as a nobleman born of a mother of noble rank (agilis), he was elevated to nobility by King Rudolf (agilis) in a heraldic letter dated December 2, 1587 in the royal castle of Bratislava, together with his brothers György, Gábor, Anna, Kata and Osanna, and their descendants, which noble letter was proclaimed in 1588 (feria 2-da prox. post fest. conceptionis B. M, V) at the court of Trenčín county. ; It must be that the ennobled ancestors of the family owned some liberated estate in the aforementioned Noszicz locality, which passed to other hands through secessions, moreover, they received their first name not only for this reason, but also from the place of their origin, the aforementioned Noszicz, which first name was all the more necessary at that time for the sake of distinction, since the Thurzó family of different origin flourished at that time and in that county, with which this family was even confused in official documents due to a pen error. (…) ; The family coat of arms - in the blue courtyard of the shield, two red bands are seen alternately at the bottom, above them on three green mounds two open red roses are joined by a white pelican with raised wings, opening its breast blood with its hooked beak. On the crown of the helmet above the shield, a pelican is also seen. The fringe on the right is golden blue, on the left is silver red. ; The grave, which contains the remains of Béla Thurzó, who died a heroic death for his Hungarian homeland, and his family members, is in a state of disrepair today, and is most likely destined for complete destruction.
