Crucifix next to church (Mission cross, cross next to church)
Sacral small monument
The oldest sacral monument in the city is the mission cross, or as it is known to the people of Gútán, the “cross by the church” located to the left of the church entrance. The hexagonal area on which this cross stands is surrounded by a black-painted wrought iron fence. The cross, as well as the plinth and pedestal, are made of Süttő marble. The pedestal is rectangular in shape and consists of six parts, which are connected by four iron straps. The plinth is a gradually narrowing column, which ends in a capping at the top. In its central part, a relief shaped like a coat of arms, 51 cm wide and 69 cm high, can be seen. On this surface, we can find an inscription engraved in Latin. Unfortunately, the marble has developed numerous cracks over time, so the inscription is very difficult to read. ; ERECTA ; ZELO&,SIPENSIS ; OPPIDI ; ANNO 1797 ; [In Hungarian: THE PASSIONATE CITIZENS OF THE CITY / DEVIL CITIZENS / 1797 (translated by Árpád Juhász)] Crucifix details: ; Dimensions of the area: 360 cm x 350 cm ; Dimensions of the pedestal: 148 cm x 128 cm x 9 cm ; Height of the plinth: 130 cm ; Dimensions of the lower part of the plinth: 84 cm x 68 cm (the same as the dimensions of the widest part of the entablature) ; Height of the cross: 190 cm ; Width of the cross: approx. 90 cm ; Dimensions of the cross shaft: 23 cm x 15.5 cm ; Height of the corpus: 90 cm ; The cross, like the main entrance of the church, is oriented west. ; The cross shaft is rectangular. On the upper part of the vertical cross-stem, a rectangular plate with the inscription INRI in raised letters can be read. Below the inscription, a cast body painted silver is visible. ; A wreath made of plastic flowers and a bouquet of plastic flowers are placed at the base of the cross-stem. The area around the cross is well-kept, and there are often flowers in a vase in front of it. Before the start of the resurrection procession, the faithful place a burning candle on the pedestal of the cross. The procession first passes in front of this cross when coming from the church. ; The foundation certificate dated June 29, 1910 shows that the “St. Missó Cross”, which was erected in 1797, “was until now under the management of the Gúta village authority”, and then from 1910 it came under the care of the Gúta parish. 50 crowns were capitalized for the foundation from the donations of the faithful (GPH, Foundation Charter, 3987/1910).
