Emil Tatárik was born on February 16, 1887 in Ondrochov. He was orphaned as a young child and grew up in an orphanage in Budapest. He obtained his teaching qualification at the Esztergom Roman Catholic Teacher Training Institute in 1906. He came to Érsekújvár after World War I, where he first worked as a copper engraver in his brother's workshop. Within a short time, he began teaching in Tardoskedd. He taught in Érsekújvár from 1925 until his retirement. He learned to play chess in Hungary and became the winner of the ÉSE – Érsekújvár Sports Association competition in 1920. He was a member of the Érsekújvár Association of the Czechoslovak Chess Association, founded in 1921, in which he was active. ; He was a well-known and beloved teacher in the city. He was also the commander of the Catholic Scout Troop. ; In 1938, he opened the local open-air bath, Strand, in the northern part of the city, between the two branches of the Nitra River. ; After the founding meeting of the Csemadok in Bratislava, he became the president of the country's first organization (March 20, 1949) at the age of 62. ; He died on March 7, 1957, and is buried in the St. Joseph Cemetery in Érsekújvár.. ; On the 100th anniversary of his birth, the city honored his memory with the Pro Urbe award in memoriam. Since 1998, the bath has borne his name.
