József Takács (Vágfarkasd, July 7, 1929 – Washington, November 28, 2013) was a journalist, radio editor, and former director of the Hungarian department of the Voice of America radio station. ; He started high school in Érsekújvár. He and his parents were resettled to Hungary in 1947 under the "population exchange agreement". He lived in Tótkomlós until 1950. After that, he was a worker at the Budapest Machine Tool Factory until May 1955. He worked as a journalist from the summer of 1956. His writings were published in Esti Budapest. On November 4, 1956, he did not return to the capital from a reporting trip, but crossed into Austria near Sopron. In December, he emigrated to the United States, where he participated in organizing refugee Hungarian students. He was the president of the North American Hungarian University and College Association from 1962 to 1964. He studied history at the University of Oregon from 1958 and received his master's degree in 1962. In 1964, he moved to Washington and became a staff member of the Voice of America radio station. From 1969, he was the deputy head of the Hungarian department, and from 1972 to 1988, he was the director of the Hungarian department. After that, he was the program director of the European department. He retired from this position in 1994.
