Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in Trenčín
Building, structure
This church in Trenčín stands on the prominent Mary Hill below the castle. A covered wooden staircase from the 1500s leads to the church. It was originally a 14th-century three-door Gothic building, which was remodeled in the 16th century in the Renaissance style. The alabaster altarpiece was probably made by Georg Raphael Donner (Essling, May 24, 1693 - Vienna, February 15, 1741), a prominent Austrian sculptor of the European Baroque era. It is a popular pilgrimage site for pilgrims on Mary's feast days throughout the year.
