Nativity of the Virgin Mary (Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary) - chapel

Building, structure

The Baroque chapel of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, built in 1771 by Mihály Ürge, stands in the cemetery. Fortunately, it was renovated before it was completely destroyed, thus regaining its original form. Jozefa Risz, who died in Zsigárd on December 27, 1814, and was the wife of the royal-imperial butler Berényi, later the court treasurer of King József Winchler, is buried in the chapel. After the death of her husband, Jozefa Risz moved to her son, József Berényi, who was a pastor in Zsigárd, lives in the chapel. The chapel contains a memorial plaque made of pink marble for the deceased woman. A member of the Ürge family was also buried in the chapel. The chapel is a small rectangular building with a polygonal closure. The plain facades are only divided by windows with segmental finishes. The simple main cornice is striking. The main facade ends in a triangular masonry peak, below which is the entrance. The room has a barrel vault with drawers. On the altar stands a statue of the Madonna, below which are statues of the Immaculate Heart of Mary and the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and a sculpture of the baby Jesus.
