Roman Catholic Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary

Building, structure

The Roman Catholic church named after the Assumption of the Virgin Mary was built by the Zichys in 1660 and then remodeled in the 18th century. It was damaged by a flood in 1965, after which it was restored in 1967. It was renovated in 1993. ; ; At one time, there was only one church in the village, a Reformed church, and a cemetery around it – in 1673, during the Counter-Reformation, the Zichy family, the landlords of Csicsó, demolished the church and had a Roman Catholic church built in its place. (It took on its current classicist style in the 18th century, with a tower built into the facade.) The cemetery around it was also liquidated. In Csicsó, Holy Communion is on August 15, as the Roman Catholic church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary was dedicated to Our Lady of the Assumption. During the First World War, two of its large bells were taken away, only the small bell remained. One of the large bells was later replaced by a donation. A tower clock on its tower shows the time and strikes the hours. In 2000, Alojz Kálnoky, the younger son of the former parish priest of Csicsó, Sándor Kálnoky, regained the family's estates along with the former Zichy castle. Befitting his patron, Alojz Kálnoky first had the Roman Catholic church renovated, and then the castle. ; The Hungarian expression "búcsú" refers to a person taking leave of the punishment awaiting him, through the grace of Jesus mediated through the Church. The búcsú can also be connected to the annual memorial feast of the patron saint of churches. In Csicsó, this day is August 15, as the Roman Catholic Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is dedicated to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Therefore, in Csicson, the feast is either on August 15, if it falls on a Sunday, or on the first Sunday after August 15, at the latest on August 21. ; Baroque stone statue of Saint John of Nepomuk – with a small, ornately carved pedestal at his feet in the front garden of the Roman Catholic church, erected in 1890 when the convent with the kindergarten and school was handed over.
