Image column with niche in the Kistatai cemetery (Mary's House)
Sacral small monument
The Kistatai cemetery's niched iconostasis is a greyish-white work with a semicircular arched end, topped with a three-lobed iron cross. Behind the wooden-framed, glazed door of its upper part, an image of the Virgin Mary can be seen. It was built from the ruins of the ancient Kistatai church, probably in the 18th century. Believers came here to pray and sing on the night of Good Friday. It was believed that whoever walked around this niched iconostasis, or the Mary House, seven times on their knees, would be healed.
