Tomb of Kálmán Szepesházy, patron of Nagybalog (Balogvölgy)
Cemeteries, tombstones, graves
Dr. Kálmán Szepesházy (1919-2008); Born in Balog and lived here until the age of 10. His father was a forestry engineer at the Coburg-Koháry estate. He studied at the Charles University in Prague and was a senior fellow at the Hungarian Geological Institute as a geologist. He hosted young people from the Uplands studying in Budapest. He provided them with housing until they found a dormitory, fed them, and even gave them pocket money. He donated 230,000 crowns for the renovation of the Balog Reformed Church, and the parish placed a plaque in the church to commemorate this. He donated one million forints and one thousand dollars to the Balogvölgy Local Organization of the Rákóczi Association, which the organization spent on creative camps between 2002 and 2007. He was elected the perpetual honorary president of this organization. He left the price of his apartment on Rózsadomb in Buda to the Simonyi Foundation in Rimaszombat, and gave one million forints to establish the Szentpéteri Foundation. Despite all this, no one should think that he was a rich man. He was an average man living alone, who found joy in giving. His only wish was to be buried in Balog.
