Holy Trinity Church
Building, structure
Built between 1717-1725, it is a single-nave, oval-shaped building with a concave facade, an outstanding work of early 18th-century church architecture. It was built on the site of the former St. Michael's Church, modeled after St. Peter's Church in Vienna. The church was built by the Trinitarian order. ; The oval nave ends in a dome, decorated with frescoes by Antonio Galli Bibiena between 1736-1740. The huge altar, made by Bussi, depicts the figures of St. John of Matthias and St. Felix of Valois. The altarpiece depicts the scene when the two saints free the teeth from the Turks. The painting is the work of the Silesian Franz Xaver Palko and may have been made sometime after 1745. On both sides of the altar are statues of St. Agnes and St. Catherine, which are probably the works of Johann Baptist Straub. The side altar with a baldachin is dedicated to the Virgin Mary and was built by the Zichy family in 1736. In the center of the altar is a copy of the Regensburg Madonna. The altar is decorated with angel statues that hold up the baldachin.
