Holy Trinity statue, Léva

Sacral small monument

The Holy Trinity Column is located opposite the St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church and in front of the old teacher training college (now a branch of the Károli Gáspár Reformed University). The sculpture group was erected by the nobleman János Huszár from Léva in 1777. According to documents, it was renovated in 1790. ; The statue of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit crowning the Virgin Mary was placed on top of the ornate stone column. "On the high pedestal of the column with an isosceles cross plan, there were originally four statues of saints – Saint Sebastian, Saint John of Nepomuk, Saint John the Baptist and Saint Roch – facing the four cardinal points. In the past, it was customary to place similar statues and groups of statues of the Holy Trinity, Mary and the plague in public spaces, as if expressing a request for help from God or an expression of gratitude for salvation from various disasters, such as fire, flood, cholera and plague epidemics. ; The Holy Trinity Column remained in its unchanged composition in Levain for 180 years, until the 1950s. This is evidenced by some old postcards and photographs that were available to the rescue committee. According to a photograph taken in 1970, only the first two saints remained on the pedestal. The statue of Saint John of Nepomuk was moved to the from the eastern wing of the foundation to the northern one. ; The statue group of the Holy Trinity, the empty pedestal of the column, the statues of Saint Sebastian and Saint John of Nepomuk have survived to this day, but are very damaged." ; Vandals first toppled the statue of Saint Sebastian, then Saint John of Nepomuk. Both were placed in the museum in many pieces, fragmentarily. ; The Holy Trinity statue group was renovated in 2013-2014. The organizers scheduled its re-consecration for September 15, 2014, the day of the Passion of the Virgin Mary. The restoration was carried out by the Tariška couple from Nagykoszmály, who carried out most of the renovation work on site. The missing statues were also replaced based on the collected photographs and postcards.
