Holy Trinity statue
Sacral small monument
Behind the church, on an artificial hill about half a meter high, stands this classicist-style monument, with which the population of the town of Gúta commemorated the dangerous cholera epidemic that claimed many lives in 1831. It is surrounded by an octagonal, black-painted, but already quite worn wrought-iron fence, from which the gate is missing. The fence has been damaged and bent on the north-west side. ; To the left of the gate, we find an 85 cm high cylindrical artificial stone column, which may have once been the place where the box was placed. The plinth of the monument is made of Süttő marble, the sculpture group and the cylindrical column supporting it are made of sandstone, while the pedestal is made of concrete. ; The figures of the Holy Trinity depicted on the cylindrical column are: on the left side, God the Father holding an orb in his left hand, on the right side, Jesus with a cross in his right hand, and above them, a dove representing the Holy Spirit surrounded by gilded rays. The Father and the Son hold a crown above the head of the Virgin Mary kneeling before them. ; The plinth is a square-based column that gradually narrows and then widens at the top. The front and back sides of its central part were shaped by the maker as if a rectangular, 1 cm thick tablet were placed on it. Both tablets bear an inscription written in bronze letters 3.3 cm high, but which has since worn away. ; The inscription on the front tablet: ; HOLY TRINITY ONE GOD ; HAVE MERCY ON US. ; HOLY VIRGIN MARY ; PRAY FOR US. ; ; The inscription on the back of the plaque reads: ; MEMORY ; WHICH WE HAVE ; RAISED WITH COMMON ZEAL BY THE CITIZENS OF OUR GUTTA M: ; CITY, WHEN THE DANGEROUS ; BURDEN OF CHOLERA ; SUDDENLY ; AND TOOK OVER MANY OF US WITH A TORMENTABLE DEATH. ; 1831 ESZ: SZ: JAKAB HAVA 31 ; ; Statue details: ; Dimensions of the enclosed area: 566 cm x 605 cm ; Dimensions of the pedestal: 280 cm x 280 cm ; Dimensions of the lowest part of the plinth: 250 cm x 250 cm ; Height of the plinth: 208 cm ; Dimensions of the plaques: 78 cm x 111 cm ; Orientation of the statue: south - east ; According to the informants, in the period between the two world wars, after Sunday mass, the city's population gathered next to the statue of the Holy Trinity, this was the place where the city's petty magistrates would throw out the news (2, 3, 8). ; The Foundation Certificate dated June 29, 1910, which I already referred to in the crucifix next to the church, also contains information about the statue of the Holy Trinity. According to this, the statue, which was maintained by the city until 1910, came under the care of the parish. No separate foundation was established for the statue. The aforementioned Foundation Certificate states that there is a lockable stone box next to the statue of the Holy Trinity, in which believers used to place their donations. The "income" of the statue was therefore the sums of money that the believers placed in the box (GPH, Foundation Certificate, 3987/1910).
