Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church
Building, structure
Tallós had three churches over the centuries. The first was made of wood, around 1524, the second in 1702, and partly stood on the site of the current one. The Zimányi church visitation record from 1813 provides the following information about the construction of the third church: “This church was originally built out of the piety of the great Count Ferenc Esterházy of Galanta and Frakno for God and the faithful, made of burnt brick, tiled, paved with square polished stones on the inside, with two types of divided benches, its construction began in 1798 and was completed in 1801 with the zealous manual labor contribution of the villages of Tallós, Vezekény, and Eperjes.” ; It stands on the main square of the village with its high steeple, its main entrance faces northwest, and its sanctuary faces southeast. Until 1947, there were three altars: the main altar, the altar of St. Michael and the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Today, only the main altar remains. On each of its two wings, a statue of a praying angel can be seen. Both date from the second half of the 18th century, they are painted wood, and the name of their creator is unknown. At the time of the construction of the church, the faithful used the chapel of the castle, which was already uninhabited due to the relocation of the correctional institution, for worship purposes. Presumably, this is where the plaster statue of the Lamb resting on the book with seven seals, which is now above the sanctuary of the altar, was placed in 2000. In the church we can see several statues: Saint Anthony of Padua, with the baby Jesus on his left arm (19th century), Queen of the Rosary (late 19th century), Our Lady of Sorrows (Pieta), Statue of the Heart of Jesus, Little Saint Teresa (late 18th century), Saint Joseph, with the baby Jesus on his left arm, daughter of Saint Anne, Virgin Mary (19th century), Virgin Mary of Lourdes. The large oil painting (canvas) behind the altar, depicting the Holy Trinity, dates from the second half of the 18th century. The older early Baroque luster-glazed sculptures of its frame date from the second half of the 17th century. The count's coat of arms is visible at the top of the picture, with the seven-pointed crown above it. The painting comes from the count's family. The picture of the Archangel Saint Michael (oil painting, on canvas) hanging on the right wall of the sanctuary (partly on the blind window) was painted by Mihály Esterházy in 1826 with an artist from Bratislava above the side altar. The name of the painter is unknown. ; The year of construction of the organ is unknown. It is clear from the church visitation records that in 1731 the church did not yet have an organ, and in 1756 it was no longer functioning. Thus, the church was probably enriched with it in the 1730s. According to the surviving news from 1784, the instrument came in five versions, but was bad. It is not known whether this was moved to the new church in 1801 or another was purchased. The church council meeting held on July 3, 1938, entrusted the organ builder Ferenc Tattinger from Ársekújvár with the reconstruction of the instrument. He also repaired it in 1956. ; The tower houses three bronze bells: the Virgin Mary Bell – weighing 65 kg, made in Brno in 1922 –, the 130 kg Saint Stephen Bell – 1907, Budapest – and the Heart of Jesus Bell, which weighs 270 kg – also cast in Brno in 1922. The ones from 1922 were made by the faithful to replace the older ones melted down for military purposes during the First World War. It is interesting that the frescoes on the church ceiling were painted by István Bíróczi, a parish priest from Nagykéry, who served in Tallós from 1982.
