Chapel of St. Vid

Building, structure

The Chapel of St. Vid is the oldest sacral monument in Oroszvár. It is located in the southern part of the southern park of the castle, right next to the main road. The first remains of the church date back to the late Roman period. The present church was built in 1613 in the Renaissance style, on the site of the original Roman church from 1208. This is evidenced by the Latin stone inscription on the wall of the church. Over time, the church has been transformed several times. The biggest blow was when it was emptied in the 1950s and used to store books. Its valuable furniture disappeared or was destroyed. Some finds, such as the altar with scenes depicting the trials of St. Vid, were fortunately saved.
