Statue of Saint Wendel

Sacral small monument

Not far from the Holy Trinity statue, also in the garden of one of the houses, we see the statue of Saint Vendel. The statue, made of sandstone, stands on a higher pedestal and is decorated with a zinc cover. According to the difficult-to-read dedication, the monument to the patron saint of shepherds was erected in 1908 and then renovated in 1951. However, the classicist, folk stone statue may be an older work. Vendel is depicted here with his hands clasped, with a shepherd's bag at his side, and a lamb at his feet. According to today's informant, the statue once stood on the edge of the village, next to the road, where the animals went to the meadow and pasture. "It ended up in their Matyi yard when the road was widened" (Béláné Cseri, 1931)
